Campesinas

When most people think of outdoor women they admire, they think of popular athletes on the forefront of outdoor recreation. I don't. I think of my mamá and the women in the farming community I grew up in. I think of the strong women who migrated to a new country to sow its land in the freezing cold and scorching sun to feed their families.

Campesinas often go unrecognized, unnoticed, unappreciated, and lately even disrespected and dehumanized in our society. They might not make the cover of Outdoor Magazine, but they too climb walls, move mountains, and embody Mother Nature’s spirit. Pachamama. These women raise the next generation of mujeres chingonas and they deserve recognition for their hard work and commitment. They are the Mexican "professional mountain climbers" Trump is afraid of, and the next generation is only getting stronger, braver, and bolder.
