Trust that you can figure it out
Fall 2011, I studied Latin American history and culture in Chile for 6 months.
I also learned to roam around the world using @lonelyplanet guidebooks and long conversations with friendly people excited to share the beauty of their homeland. My old Chile @lonelyplanet is somewhere in my parents’ garage along with my college textbooks.
Somewhere in the Lakes section, you’ll find the exact instructions we took to get to this dock.
Take a ~10 hour bus from Santiago to Puerto Varas. Then take a town bus to Ensenada that makes a stop at Petrohué. I think we had to hitchhike to get to the entrance we were looking for then walked a bit.
From there, take a boat across the lake to an open area where you can set up tents. The camp owners are nice, and they have kayaks you can borrow. The bugs can get awful at sunset, oh and they also have cute pigs on the property you should check out.
This is how I learned to travel the world. Sometimes you just have to trust that you can figure things out as you go. If you’re a problem solver like me, that challenge is half the thrill and it makes the destination that much more rewarding.
